TWINNING WITH POGGIO BUSTONE - ITALY
In 2009, Mayor Manuel Taboada and the Councillors Manuel Canabal and Gerardo Pintor, travelled to Poggio Bustone (Rieti - Italy) to sign a twinning project, launched from the organization 'Roads of Europe', in that along with O Pino, participated the municipality of Sobrado dos Monxes, and the municipality of Melide, supporting this initiative.
This program, under the slogan "Citizens of Europe", aimed a meeting between the towns of O Pino and Poggio Bustone, which held an institutional arrangement of twinning, aimed at promoting the cultural, economic, commercial and social integration between the two municipalities.
This twinning was born in the framework of the Camino de Santiago and Francisco's Way as elements of cultural integration, with particular attention to cultural and tourist initiatives, as well as the promotion of relations socio - cultural populations of both locations.
VOLUNTEERING XACOBEO 2010
One of the most interesting projects were launched at our town hall, was the realization of a Work Camp, organized by the Direccion Xeral de Xuventude e Voluntariado.
This project involved a total of 20 young people from all parts of Spain, who along with 7 monitors worked on three fundamental axes: the cleaning of the Roman Bridge of Ponte Puñide, information to pilgrims in the French Way that passing through O Pino and the realization of a Theatrical Dance-theatre Show called "Ultreiamundi".
Within the Xacobeo 2010 also took place the Local Volunteering, in which boys and girls of the municipality of O Pino, Santiago and region, participated voluntarily in the work of information and support to the pilgrims in two fundamental points: the tourist office and the public hostel of Arca.
Another program that was held in our town was the "Eu Camiño", also known as the “European Voluntary Service”, attended by a group of international volunteers arrived from various countries (Italy, Poland, Portugal, Romania, etc.), which ensured the information and care to the pilgrims in different languages along the Camino de Santiago.
The called "Volunteer of Wisdom" was another initiative involving five people of the town of more than 65 years, have their experiences through legends, stories and tales that know that to the pilgrims. They hoped the pilgrims near the fountain and Chapel of Santa Irene to invite them to approach the source, telling them that, according to the legend, women who are drenched in the source remain beautiful the rest of his life.
EXCHANGE PROGRAM "WAYS OF SOLIDARITY" 2012
In the year 2012, the Council of O Pino participated in a 'Ways of Solidarity' project, launched by the Direction Xeral de Xuventude e Voluntariado.
This European project, funded by the Grundtvig programme within the programs of lifelong learning of the European Commission, aimed to encourage those over 50 years to serve the community and develop their knowledge in a cross-cultural context.
Four volunteers from Ireland, Philomena and Peter in the month of May and Pat and Katherine in the month of October, arrived at Santiago de Compostela to work as volunteers developing activities of information and welcome the pilgrims in the town of O Pino during 4 weeks in two different seasons.
The activities carried out by these volunteers were:
- Collaboration in the Pilgrim's Hostel of Arca, welcoming the pilgrims and helping the upkeep to receive and accommodate the pilgrims.
- Collaboration in the Tourist Information Office of the Council, helping staff provide information about available services, cultural activities and cultural heritage.
- They developed intercultural activities, talking about their country of origin and showing people exclusive things of their own culture, with the aim of breaking stereotypes about each country
EUROPEAN VOLUNTARY SERVICE (EVS)
From 2011, the Council of O Pino has accreditation at the European level of shipping, reception and coordination entity of volunteers, under the programme of the Youth Institute (INJUVE), the European Voluntary Service (EVS), being one of the few municipalities in Galicia that have this accreditation.
The European Voluntary Service is a learning experience in the field of non-formal education, in which 18 to 30 year olds to improve or acquire competences for their personal, educational and professional development. The duration of the programme, which covers all costs of volunteering, is from two months to a maximum of one year in a country of the EU or partner.
All those young interested in participating in this program can report at the offices of the Council of O Pino.
